The latest Ephemera Journal has come out with a focus on cities including this little gem exploring low-budget landscapes. Author Krzysztof Herman notes how common it is for budgets of landscape projects to run into the millions and presents examples in her native Poland where low-cost approaches using re-purposed materials and with a focus on community action have produced successful projects.
Here at Sprout, we are driven by the communal promise of public space and want to encourage communities whatever the budget. Low-cost approaches are a terrific way of getting the ball rolling. Temporary projects are an easier thing to say yes to and programming a community’s public space can provide a launch pad for future projects.
